Peru President: Citizens have opportunity to choose best Congress candidates

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that citizens have the opportunity to choose the best candidates in the parliamentary elections scheduled for January 26, 2020.


Today, the Head of State said he would like to see parties implementing the concept of renewal and change. However, if they do not, citizens will have the opportunity to choose the best candidates and shape the Congress everyone expects.

"A Congress whose purpose is to fight against corruption, not to protect the questioned characters, in order to remove immunity when it becomes impunity," the top official stated.

"When we are so close to the elections aimed at renewing the (dissolved) Congress, we all have to make an effort, starting with the political parties, in order to choose the good candidates (…)," the President expressed.

Remarks were made during his participation in the opening ceremony of the 30th Annual Seminar of the Consortium for Economic and Social Research (CIES) held in Lima.
