During an address to the nation on Friday night, the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte called on Parliament to bring forward the date for the second voting on a bill aimed at holding early general elections in Peru.

"I ask the Congress of the Republic to bring forward the date for the second voting session," Mrs. Boluarte said, referring to the double voting mechanism for bills which involve constitutional reforms —such as the one that establishes holding early elections in April 2024.

Thus, the population will be clear that there is already "a certain date on which we will have the guaranteed election," she indicated.

In this regard, the Head of State stressed that her objective is to move towards a democratic transition. Similarly, the top official questioned the fact that she is asked to resign from office before completing this process.

Repowered dialogue

The President announced that her administration has ordered the strengthening of all dialogue offices of the Executive Branch, "including that of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers."

This implies reinforcing "the mechanisms for monitoring compliance with agreements," the Head of State indicated.

"Dialogue roundtables don't lie to the people," she added.

By virtue of this process, these offices will promote "a direct, sincere, and effective dialogue leading to concrete results, and with more specialized professionals."

They will engage in dialogue with valid representatives of the population.

Engaging in this dialogue, "in addition to contributing to the solution for the social political crisis, serves to generate a decentralized reform agenda needed by the country and to hand over the agenda for the development of regions to the new Government and the new Congress," Mrs. Boluarte explained.

"It is a dialogue not only to solve the immediate (issues), but also to make this possible and sustainable over time," she pointed out.
