Peru Justice Min: "Peru cannot relax in the fight against organized crime"

12:14 | Lima, Jul. 29.

Peru's Justice and Human Rights Minister Vicente Zeballos on Sunday congratulated the Public Ministry, Judiciary, and National Police for the recent and successful operation that led to the capture of Port's White Collars alleged criminal organization members.

Speaking to reporters, the cabinet member underlined the Inca country must continue combating this type of scourges, such as corruption and organized crime

"On this occasion, I want to acknowledge the efforts undertaken by the Interior Ministry, which were in close coordination with the Prosecutor's Office and Judiciary," the official expressed.

"Peru cannot relax; quite apart from protocol activities, we must inform that institutions are carrying out their work," he added.

Moreover, Zeballos expressed confidence these efforts will continue on Monday so that other officials —involved in corruption cases— can be identified.

Earlier, the National Police arrested Iza Motors General Manager Antonio Camayo who —along with other 10 members of the Port's White Collars— is involved in audio recordings revealing corruption in Peru's port city of Callao.

Detainees include National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) former official Jose Luis Cavassa Roncalla —who served as the alleged organization's political operator— as well as textile entrepreneur Mario Americo Mendoza Diaz.

The arrests came one day after President Martin Vizcarra delivered his first annual address to the nation on the occasion of Peru's 197th Independence Day anniversary.

As is known, Zeballos was sworn in as Justice and Human Rights minister on July 21.
