President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday opened this year's Civic-Military Parade in Lima marking Peru's 197th Independence anniversary.
This annual event —held every July 29th— features detachments representing the Inca country's military and civil institutions, as well as the National Police.
The ceremony sees the presence of State ministers, congress members, high-ranking military officers, religious authorities, diplomats, and the First Family led by the President's wife Maribel Diaz.
As every year, a limited number of seats were reserved for authorities and the press. The rest was open for a great deal of spectators.
Following a brief welcoming ceremony, attendees got together to sing the national anthem.
Held as part of Independence Day festivities, the parade pays tribute to Peruvian Armed Forces for their contribution to the country.
It is also an opportunity to inspire patriotism and love of country.
On this occasion, the event features traditional dances from Peru's inland areas.
