Peru President: If we are united, we will win the fight against covid-19

14:14 | Lima, May. 25.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday affirmed that Peruvian citizens will win the fight against the coronavirus pandemic if they are united.

The Head of State stressed that little by little the public becomes aware of the restrictive measures decreed to contain the covid-19 spread nationwide.

"We are seeing that, little by little, we are all realizing that this fight will be won if we are united (...). Together we are very strong and truly invincible, but disunited, disjointed, we might become weak," he expressed.

Likewise, the top official apologized to citizens in case he had not been clear enough while explaining the recently-enacted supreme decree, which extends the state of emergency until June 30.

"I apologize if the explanation was not clear, but we gave the explanation supported by the truth. We are going to tell the good, average, and bad news. We do not hide the truth," he stated.

The statesman also reported that there are 123,979 positive covid-19 cases in the country to date.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Monday marks the seventy-first day of mandatory social isolation.
