Peru President: Only united we will continue to fight this pandemic

19:13 | Lima, Jun. 24.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed that —in this time of coronavirus— only the unity of all will encourage us to keep fighting.

Likewise, the Head of State noted that he believes in the capacity and strength of Peruvians to do so.

In his speech to give an account of the Government's actions in 100 days, since Peruvian authorities declared a state of emergency in the country, Mr. Vizcarra said he hopes to continue working in a cooperative manner to end this scourge, revive the economy, and return to the path of economic growth.

"This Government is convinced that only united we will be able to continue to fight the pandemic, showing unity, without hopelessness and uncertainty, which is doing so much damage to the people's moral principles," he pointed out.

The top official assured that every single Peruvian is needed in this new era —including men, women, the youth, children, entrepreneurs, and employees— "in order to take care of ourselves and our loved ones, and not to let Peru down."

"The future of the country depends on all of us. Don't lower your guard, please," he expressed.

Additionally, the statesman said it was necessary to handle the situation with "hope and faith" because the country has learned many lessons during these 100 days.

"Today we are aware that we need to strengthen the State's tasks with robust and inclusive public policies; it is unthinkable that the country will not have an integrated health system in the future. Today we are laying the foundations while facing the challenge of collaborative work between the public and private sectors," he added.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Wednesday marks the one-hundred-first day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
