Peru, Ecuador Presidents lead 12th Binational Cabinet

16:27 | Quito (Ecuador), Oct. 26.

Heads of State Martin Vizcarra (Peru) and Lenin Moreno (Ecuador) on Friday presided over the 12th Binational Cabinet in Quito.

As is known, Binational Cabinets constitute a mechanism for political dialogue between two nations with the aim of working on specific issues of common concern included in the bilateral agenda.

"The past 11 editions have achieved the development of a broad agenda that boosts the well-being of both countries' populations, especially of the most vulnerable and the ones from border areas," the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed.

During the gathering, Peruvian and Ecuadorian authorities addressed subjects concerning the social, cultural, economic, environmental, energy, mining, infrastructural, connectivity, and security spheres.

At the meeting, an ambitious work agenda was established with the purpose of prioritizing the comprehensive management of water resources in the joint border area.

The Presidents also shared their worries regarding the increase in the Venezuelan migratory flow to their countries and agreed on maintaining a close coordination in order to face the challenges and needs presented by said issue.

Following his arrival, the Head of State held a private meeting with President Moreno at the Carondelet Palace.

Furthermore, Vizcarra's visit coincided with the 20th anniversary of the 1998 Brasilia Agreement, a peace treaty signed between the two nations.
