Peru: Alert issued in Cusco for U.S. tourist missing since May 13

The United States Embassy in Peru reported the disappearance of tourist Ian Thomas Treger, 29, in Cusco region to the Peruvian National Police (PNP) Missing Persons Investigation and Search Unit.

According to an alert notice, the foreign citizen has been missing since May 13. Preliminary information indicates that he was in the Wanchaq district, Cusco city.

He had told his family that he was heading to the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex.

This archaeological park is located between Anta and La Convencion provinces.

Visiting the site can take up to five days, following a journey and trek from Cusco city to San Pedro de Cachora town, Apurimac region.

From there, visitors descend to Capuliyoc and Playa Rosalinas before re-entering Cusco territory en route to Choquequirao.

Ian Thomas Treger is of average build, fair-skinned, with an oval-shaped face, blue eyes, thick eyebrows, a medium-sized mouth, a straight nose, and blond hair.

He is 1.78 meters (5 feet 10 inches) tall and has two small fish tattoos on his right calf.

The alert notice was distributed to police stations and law enforcement units throughout Cusco region and nationwide.

The PNP urges the public to provide any information regarding his whereabouts by calling (+51) 903-450-981, dialing 105, or notifying the nearest police station.
