President-elect Keiko Fujimori announced on Monday that Elmer Cuba will serve as the next Minister of Economy and Finance, while Carlos Espá will assume the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs in her first Cabinet.
At a news conference, Fujimori said her administration's first Cabinet will be made up of a team capable of addressing the enormous challenges facing the country.
Thus, the president-elect introduced the first three professionals who will join the Council of Ministers.
Fujimori said the remaining Cabinet members will be announced on Tuesday, July 28.
"There are two positions of utmost importance. The Ministry of Economy and Finance will be headed by Elmer Cuba, one of the country's most renowned and influential economists and a specialist in macroeconomics and economic policy. He has served as a director of the Central Reserve Bank," she indicated.
Fujimori said Cuba joins the administration with a clear mission: "to restore stability, confidence, and growth to our economy."
"But most importantly, this growth must translate into jobs, poverty reduction, and greater opportunities for all citizens," she added.
Afterwards, the president-elect announced that Carlos Espá will serve as her administration’s Foreign Affairs Minister.
She said Espá will assume responsibility for leading a modern, professional foreign policy focused on strengthening Peru's presence in the world, attracting investment, opening up opportunities for the country's citizens, and consolidating cooperation with the international community.
