The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, was the most visited tourist destination in Peru between January and February of this year was, which registered 191,351 visitors, 16.7% higher than the same period in 2024, reported The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Of this figure, 63% were foreign visitors and 37% were domestic visitors.

"This result reflects the great interest that Peru's cultural heritage arouses both in the international market and in domestic tourism," Mincetur emphasized.

He also noted that another emblematic site that showed significant growth was the Saqsayhuaman Esplanade, which received 135,336 visitors, 9.9% more than in January and February 2024, and 49.4% more than the same period in 2019.

In this case, 56.1% of the visitors were Peruvian, while 43.9% were foreign, demonstrating the key role of domestic tourism in boosting local economic activities.

Other tourist attractions that contribute to the diversification of the national offering were the Paracas National Reserve with 130,856 visitors and the Ballestas Islands, which received 122,775 visitors.

Likewise, the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park registered 107,093 visitors; the Pukapukara Archaeological Site, 100,746 visitors; The Moray Archaeological Complex, with 97,045 visitors; and the Chancay Castle Tourist Center, with 92,741 visitors.

Mincetur (Ministry of Tourism) emphasized that the reactivation of tourism in Peru not only promotes knowledge and appreciation of the country's cultural and natural heritage, but also has a direct impact on the national, regional, and local economy, generating opportunities in sectors such as lodging, gastronomy, tour guides, transportation, commerce, and crafts.
