Health Min: There are no Indian COVID-19 variant cases in Peru

To date, there is no evidence that the Indian variant of coronavirus has reached Peru, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has affirmed , urging the population to continue complying with prevention measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Health Institute (INS) is closely monitoring the evolution of the pandemic. Within this framework, it confirms that the Brazilian variant is the predominant one in the Andean country at this stage, he indicated.

According to the Cabinet member, there are few cases of disease caused by the UK variant in Peru.

The government official added that there are no South African variant cases neither those of the Indian one.

Nonetheless, he emphasized that "Peruvians must continue protecting ourselves."

"Indeed, we have to remain on guard. The fact that we are making progress on the vaccination against COVID-19 does not guarantee that, if we are careless, we will not fall ill," Ugarte remarked. 


Vaccination process

Regarding the vaccination against COVID-19, the minister confirmed that —between now and July— Peru will receive 10 million doses to protect 5 million citizens.
