The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination process for over 1.3 million people aged 70 to 79 years —of which 462,306 are registered in Lima and Callao— begins today, Deputy Public Health Minister Gustavo Rosell has reported.

According to the government official, the people over 80 who have fallen behind in the vaccination program will also be immunized in the coming weeks.

He explained that 42 vaccination sites have been set up in Lima and Callao, and 365 brigades will be available for orderly inoculation on the dates, places, and times established in the vaccination registry prepared by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).

"On the Pongo el Hombro (I lend the shoulder) website, one can check the place, date, and time of their vaccination. Inquiries are being received since yesterday and we hope to have (the register of) those over 60 years old next week," he noted.

Rosell noted that Peru will receive 700,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses per week as of the second week of May, which will make it possible to achieve the Government's goal of vaccinating everyone over 60 years of age by next July.

"1.3 million people over 70 and 2.3 million people over 60, that is, we are going to have enough vaccines," he said.

The government official explained that people in regions can also check their eligibility because this is a national vaccination campaign, and everyone must be included in the programming.

Moreover, he thanked the willingness of regional governors to support the vaccination process and achieve the immunization of the population in each of their jurisdictions.

As is known, the President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti affirmed that 4.3 million older adults residing in Peru will already be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of his term in office (July 28, 2021).
