01:02 | Lima, Apr. 15.

Peruvian Education Minister Ricardo Cuenca on Wednesday evening received a new batch of vaccines against COVID-19 from Pfizer pharmaceutical company, which will immediately join the immunization process of people over 80 years of age.

The cargo consisted of 200,700 doses that arrived via KLM at around 6:30 p.m. at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport.

"The Education minister welcomes the flight bringing the second batch of Pfizer vaccines, 200,700 doses, which will be part of the national vaccination process," the Ministry of Education (Minedu) posted on Twitter.

The Minedu message appears next to the slogans "Pongo el Hombro" (I lend the shoulder) and "Yo me vacuno" (I get vaccinated) that government authorities use to encourage vaccination, along with images from the air terminal.

With a pandemic on its second wave, Peru has already vaccinated health workers (doctors, nurses, technicians, etc.) as well as personnel from the National Police, Armed Forces, and firefighters.
