Young mountain-climber Silvia Vasquez-Lavado became the first Peruvian woman to reach Mount Everest summit on Thursday May 19th, 2016.

The feat was achieved at around 06:00 A.M. (Peruvian time).

Vasquez-Lavado started her journey in 2005, when arriving at the base of the mount for the first time.

Because of the impact, she decided to scale the world's highest mountains: Kilimanjaro (2006), Elbrus (2007) and Aconcagua (2014) and became convinced to climb the Himalayas.

The national athlete was joined by over 150 citizens from Nepal, India, New Zealand and Myanmar, all of them reunited by "Courageous Girls," a non-governmental organization.

Founded by her, the NGO works with female survivors of abuse.
