Ship arrivals, departures in Peru's ports increase 18.02%

Arrivals and departures of ships in Peruvians ports increased by 18.2% between January and May this year, compared to the same period of 2011, according to Peru’s National Port Authority (APN).
Between January and May 2012 the country's ports received and dispatched 12,673 ships, against the 10,738 ships in the same period last year.

In May, Peruvian ports received 1,198 ships and dispatched 1,244. The river ports received the largest number of ships with a total of 616, while the maritime ones received 582 ships.

Among ships received in that month, there are 158 containerships, 147 general cargo ships, 132 tankers, 95 passenger, 67 bulk carriers, 22 Ro-Ro and 577 of other types.

Peru’s Amazon port of Iquitos (Loreto region) has the most ships mobilized in May, receiving and dispatching a 29.9% of the total.

Iquitos was followed by the port of Callao, Pucallpa (San Martin region) and Talara (Piura region), with 23.9%, 14.9% and 8.8% of the total, respectively.
