After 17 days of intense competition, the
came to an end, and Team Peru managed to surpass its expectations with 32 medals overall, including ten gold.
Thus, Peru had the second best performance in the history of this major sporting event after the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
As the days passed, the presence of Team Peru —made up of 216 athletes— was felt on the ground with categorical triumphs in athletics (long-distance and middle-distance races), surfing, squash, sailing, and cycling events, taking gold medals.
The Peruvian athletics team was one of the most applauded as it won seven medals (3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze). Kimberly Garcia (women's 20-kilometer race walk), Luz Mery Rojas (women's 10-kilometer race walk) and Cristhian Pacheco (men's marathon) rose to the top of the podium.
The Peruvian surf team left evidence that it is one of the strongest in the Americas, and the six medals it obtained in Santiago prove this.
Of this group, Maria Fernanda Reyes (women's longboard), Benoit "Piccolo" Clemente (men's longboard) and Lucca Mesinas (men's shortboard) took gold at the 2024 edition of the Games.
Additionally, sailing gave Peru two gold medals, which were obtained by Caterina Romero (women's sunfish) and Stefano Peschiera (men's ILCA 7).
Without a doubt, the national athlete who won the most prizes was Diego Elias (squash) as he took three medals.
Moreover, Cycling gave Peru a big surprise, with Hugo Ruiz Calle from Piura obtaining the gold medal in track cycling (omnium). It is the first time that this discipline rises to the top in the Pan American Games.
