The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday signed the supreme decree establishing Peruvian Gastronomy Week —in a ceremony held at the Government Palace's Courtyard of Honor in Lima.

The event —which was attended by the entire Ministerial Cabinet, as well as ambassadors, regional authorities, and chefs from all over the country— was part of Peruvian Cuisine and Gastronomy Day.

The corresponding document was signed by the Head of State and Foreign Trade-Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez. Its purpose is to recognize and revalue Peru's gastronomy.

Likewise, it establishes that Peruvian Gastronomy Week will take place during the second week of September every year.

"Just like Ceviche, Rocoto Relleno, and other dishes are exquisite and coveted in other latitudes of the world, it is essential that national gastronomy not be limited to a day or a week, but rather that it be a permanent task, and that it be celebrated at schools and universities. Yet that can't be done if we don't recognize our brother and sister chefs, those who remain anonymous, and many communities in the country," Mr. Castillo expressed.

The Head of State specified that when he traveled abroad, Peruvian cuisine was always a highly talked about topic, and it is important that every citizen who comes to Peru leaves happy once that person has tasted any Peruvian drink and food.

"But we must also take it (Peruvian gastronomy) to the farthest corners of the country, places where we must rescue the richness that communities have; I call on you to hold this event in each region and province of Peru; you have the support from the Government," he affirmed.

Moreover, the top official indicated that one cannot speak of exquisite dishes if the Government does not guarantee farming fields through the Second Agrarian Reform or provide them with water security for crops.

"But nothing can't get ahead if we don't have this gesture of unity. I encourage you to move forward, and we will see how to allocate the budget for a better future," he added.
