President of Peru: Return of military relics strengthens ties with Chile

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday affirmed today that the return of military relics of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, by Chile, strengthens the bilateral relationship and their shared commitment to setting an agenda for the future.

"This is a gesture of great meaning, which we recognize as an act of State and an expression that contributes to strengthening friendship and trust as part of a future agenda to which we are committed," he said.

His remarks were delivered this morning at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima.

A the event, he said the agenda is mainly focused on the development and well-being of Peruvians and Chileans.

The Head of State conveyed a greeting to his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric, and to everyone who made the return of these military relics possible.

Mr. Castillo also said that the legacy of national heroes should not be forgotten and called for reflection on the actions carried out by Peruvian men and women who sacrificed their lives for a higher purpose.

"Regardless of the adverse circumstances, they provide an example that should encourage us to work together in order to build a fairer and more equitable country," the top dignitary stated.

"May their sacrifice be an incentive to lay the foundations for development," he added.
