President Dina Boluarte on Tuesday indicated that the Government has allocated S/7 billion (about US$1.872 billion) for building, upgrading, and maintaining schools nationwide so as to strengthen education for Peruvian students.

"Our Government has unblocked projects and allocated resources to enhance education in Peru, such as the S/7 billion (about US$1.872 billion) investment to build, upgrade, and maintain schools across the country," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

A portion of that budget —she said— was allocated to the construction of 75 bicentennial schools that will benefit more than 11,800 students.

The top official said another commitment she has realized is the expansion of Beca 18 (Scholarship 18) program, which has doubled the number of full scholarships from 5,000 to 10,000 this year. It is projected to award 20,000 scholarships every year by 2025 and 2026.

"This achievement opens the door to a future, to a tomorrow of opportunities for young Peruvians who, through education, will be able to transform their lives and those of their families," she expressed.

Higher and technical education

Mrs. Boluarte stated that the Executive Branch transferred S/143 million (about US$38.25 million) to regional governments so as to strengthen higher education.

Similarly, she announced that the Chancay Higher Technological Institute will be enhanced with the support of the National Society of Industries (SNI) to offer new technical programs that meet Chancay Megaport's needs.

Likewise, the president pointed out that the budget for public universities has been increased by 48%, reaching S/6.968 billion (about US$1.863 billion).

"We stand for education; nothing will distract us. In that regard, let us work together to ensure that children and young people have the tools for the future," she noted.

Mrs. Boluarte also said that from September to December of this year, 14 new bicentennial educational institutions will be handed over in Ate, Carabayllo, Comas, Independencia, Los Olivos, Chosica, Puente Piedra, San Martin de Porres districts to benefit more than 22,357 students.
