The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, on Thursday announced that Peru and Brazil will promote education and health services in the border area in order to improve the quality of life of citizens in both countries and to extend the presence of the State to the most remote areas of the national territory.

Castillo's remarks were delivered during his visit to Brazil, where he met with his Brazilian counterpart, Jair Bolsonaro.

The Head of State remarked that the two countries will work together on various issues, such as the highways and various services that should be provided along the nearly-3000-kilometers long border line.

In this regard, he stressed the need to get closer to towns with communication roads and to promote medical services with personnel from both countries, as well as a cultural exchange.

"In the case of education, we are intending to prepare an educational curriculum on both sides of the country," he said.

In addition, President Castillo emphasized that the Government has to ensure the development of border areas.

For this reason, various agreements were signed with Brazil today. Consequently, the ministers of health, education, defense, and foreign affairs will be in constant communication to develop a common agenda and work to make the agreements a reality.

"For our part, we feel very strengthened, and I reiterate my embrace to President Jair Bolsonaro," he said in an interview with TV Peru.

Precisely today, the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, and his Brazilian counterpart, Jair Bolsonaro, signed health agreements, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation between the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) and the Ministry of Health of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

In this way, EsSalud and the Brazilian Ministry of Health will exchange information on the social health security policy; decentralization of health management; medicine policy and the functioning of information systems at health facilities; as well as financial regulation of health services and human resource training in health.
