In a severe blow to international terrorism, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) captured an alleged Iranian terrorist, member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force, and two of his alleged accomplices, who were planning to attack an Israeli citizen.

The capture of Iranian Majid Azizi, 56, took place on Thursday, when he was walking through Las Malvinas Commercial Center in Lima's Cercado area, after having withdrawn money from an ATM, along with one of his accomplices, Peruvian Walter Oswaldo Linares Solano, 57.

The fine intelligence work by the PNP's Anti-terrorism Directorate (Dircote) also led to the capture of the second alleged accomplice, identified as 44-year-old Luis Filomeno Loja Vasquez, Peru's Interior Minister Victor Torres highlighted on Friday.

Thanks to these captures, it was possible to thwart the attack by this terrorist group or cell that used to take advantage of existing criminal networks in various countries to carry out lethal operations in their name.

From the Lima-based Dircote headquarters, where he led the presentation of the results of this police operation called "Peru Protection," the minister underlined that the police institution remains focused on working on security and fighting organized crime.

"I want you to know about the fine work that Dircote does to give peace of mind to the Peruvian people," Torres expressed.

In turn, PNP General Staff Chief, Lieutenant General Oscar Arriola, underlined the police work, evidenced in these important captures.

He said that this accomplishment was achieved in close coordination with international anti-terrorism agencies.

Arriola detailed that the alleged Iranian terrorist —who had planned to return to his country today— might have Peruvian citizenship due to his wife.

The police officer added that the suspect allegedly in charge of carrying out the annihilation was 31-year-old Angello Felipe Trucios Leon, who is missing.

Regarding the latter, the law enforcement officer announced that, following an assessment, it is possible that Trucios Leon will be included in the Interior Ministry's Rewards Program in order to facilitate his capture with the support of citizens.

Moreover, Arriola mentioned that the Israeli citizen who was going to become a victim of the attack in Peru was fully identified; however, his name is being kept confidential due to security reasons.

This important police work is framed not only in the Interior sector guidelines, but also in what is established in the Safe Peru Plan by 2030, which includes among its variables the fight against organized and transnational crimes.
