A Peruvian team gave another great performance in an international mathematical competition. This time, a group of Peruvian teens were crowned champions at the 24th Iberoamerican Mathematical Olympiad, held from September 17 to 27 in Santiago de Queretaro, Mexico.

The Peruvian team prevailed over representatives from 23 countries, and won two gold and two silver medals, becoming the champion of the tournament.

The team members are Percy Guerra Ríos (17) and Jesus Ramos Castillo (18), both gold medalists; and Amilcar Velez Salamanca (17) and Julian Mejia Cordero (15), who won silver medals.

They beat students from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador and Spain, among others.

All participants completed two tests (one per day). Each test consisted of three questions and lasted four hours.

It should be noted that Julian Mejia, the youngest, was awarded a gold medal at the 20th Mathematics Olympiad of South America's Southern Cone region, held in Argentina on April 14-19.
