Peru's President: We make strenuous efforts to meet population's needs

18:30 | Tumbes (Tumbes region), May. 11.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday affirmed that his administration undertakes major efforts to meet all needs of the population in every corner of the country; thus, it works hand-in-hand with local and regional authorities.

At the end of the 10th Decentralized Council of Ministers in Tumbes, Mr. Castillo stated that authorities often get frustrated because they cannot move public works forward, which are highly important to improve citizens' education and health standards.

Yet, he said, State ministers now visit Peruvian regions to listen to authorities' demands and work with them.

"We are demanding the ministers to work alongside authorities and the community; I share your concern, but we are making strenuous efforts to reach out to every corner of the country," he expressed.

The Head of State emphasized that he is also working to solve the problem of contamination in the border area, as discussed during his last meeting with Ecuadorian counterpart Guillermo Lasso.

"Mayors, we leave shaping a viable team in your hands because our brothers and the President of Ecuador have asked us to sit down and talk about the issue of pollution and the issue of water," he explained.

Furthermore, the top official stressed that holding Decentralized Councils of Ministers in the national territory is a good opportunity for the Government to sit down with authorities and find out where the bottlenecks are, which do not allow granting viability to the projects that people ask for.

Indeed, President Pedro Castillo led the 10th Decentralized Council of Ministers in Tumbes, northern Peru.

The meeting was held at Palacio de los Deportes Coliseum. It was attended by State ministers, Tumbes region legislators, regional and local authorities, in addition to civil society representatives.

The purpose of this session was to craft the territorial development agenda for Tumbes region, for the benefit of more than 240,000 inhabitants.
