Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed that his Government is facing the challenge of laying the foundations for a fairer and more equitable economic growth, in which people are the top priority, with a view to the Bicentennial of the Republic.
"And we must do so with the same energy and conviction as at the beginning of this fight (against the coronavirus) for the sake of this and future generations," the Head of State pointed out.
He said the pandemic has showed that the country's priorities have been set wrong in recent decades, noting that the GDP growth is not enough to improve citizens' living conditions.
"Our current economic expectations indicator is over 66 points, above its historic average. This is good news, as economic actors perceive that things are improving," he commented.
"However, the analysis must be comprehensive. Investment in health, education, and social programs must be of the same importance," he added.
In this sense, the President believes that economic growth has to go hand-in-hand with development and social welfare in view of the Bicentennial of Independence, which will be celebrated next year.
The event took place at the Naval Academy of Peru located in Callao's Punta district.
