"To address the urgent challenges posed by El Niño phenomenon and citizen insecurity, we will issue urgency decrees and seek delegated legislative powers from the Congress of the Republic," she indicated.
In her speech, the top official said her administration will focus its initial efforts on addressing two national emergencies: mitigating the effects of El Niño phenomenon and strengthening citizen security, priorities that will mark the beginning of her administration.
"In the immediate term, my administration will be focused on two national emergency fronts: mitigation of El Niño phenomenon and citizen security," she stated.
The president said both issues directly affect the population.
"We fear for our lives when we go out into the streets or that our homes will be flooded," she expressed.
The top official specified that, to address the effects of El Niño phenomenon, "extraordinary resources" will be used because "the climate does not wait for the pace of bureaucracy."
Fujimori also announced that her administration will implement a national contingency plan for El Niño phenomenon, which "will break with the logic of delayed response to move into the era of timely prevention."
In this regard, she added that the Executive Branch will call on regional and local governments to join prevention and reconstruction efforts.
