From Iquitos, where he supervised the rural electrification project, President Jose Maria Balcazar on Wednesday stated that funding to provide electricity to remote areas of the country is guaranteed.

The Head of State said the government recently issued an urgency decree for the State-owned oil company Petroperu, which guarantees the Energy and Mines Ministry's budget allocations.

"In that decree, we made sure that the budget allocations corresponding to the Energy and Mines Ministry to bring electricity to all neglected towns across Peru, such as yours, would not be touched. Funding for rural electrification is guaranteed," he indicated.

The top official noted that electrification programs will be one of his administration's hallmarks, because where there is electricity, there is prosperity and development.

"Electricity is everything (...) that is why we are aware that development must begin with the installation of electricity," he pointed out.

The President assured citizens that several projects for Loreto region will be announced during the decentralized Council of Ministers session to be held in Iquitos.

The Head of State also stated that his Cabinet is made up of technocrats and that they will continue working until July 28, when they must hand over power to the next administration.

"I am not a politician; I am a technocrat, too. I served as a judge for many years and I know the reality, but I still needed to come to Iquitos. I am not campaigning, but I do know how a country should be governed," he expressed.

Finally, the top official reiterated that he will govern by reaching the country's most remote towns and border areas so that democracy can be truly felt.
