The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, stated that organized crime and delinquency will not undermine the actions carried out by the Government, such as the raids conducted inside Peruvian penitentiary centers.

This announcement was made by the Head of State on the X platform on Wednesday.

"Every action generates a reaction. We are getting to the roots of one of the sources of crime in our country. As a result of the raids at prisons, criminals have been threatening the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) chief," Jeri said.

“As a government, and together, we will take the necessary measures, but we will continue with redoubled effort on the actions already underway. They will not undermine us," he noted.

The top official's post comes after learning about the threats received by INPE Chief, Ivan Paredes, due to the ongoing raids conducted in some penitentiary facilities.

According to statements to various media outlets, the calls Paredes received told him to "tone down" his work leading these operations that uncover illicit items at Peruvian prisons.

Raids at prisons nationwide were intensified as part of the state of emergency declared by the government.
