Peru's PM: We will await Congress' decision respecting separation of powers

20:12 | Lima, Jan. 30.

Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola affirmed out that the Executive Branch is awaiting the decision to be adopted by Parliament on the issue of early elections, in order to provide a democratic solution to the crisis that the country is facing.

In this regard, he mentioned that "as President Dina Boluarte said, we are awaiting the decision of the Congress of the Republic, respecting the separation of powers and the powers of this constitutionally autonomous body."

Regarding the second bill announced by the Head of State, referring to the reform of the Constitution, Otarola noted that the initiative states that any reform should be made through the Constitution Commission of the next Congress.

Moreover, the head of the Ministerial Cabinet ruled out that said initiative is linked to a proposal of forming a Constituent Assembly.

In addition, the Prime Minister underscored that this proposal has been evaluated for several days and that it has not been formally approved by the Council of Ministers, as it is receiving feedback from all State ministers.

"We convey a message of confidence and optimism, especially to economic players. The Government of President Dina Boluarte will always work for the poorest, for the underprivileged, but it will also respect the country's macroeconomic stability and will ensure that economic rules remain stable, under the model that has allowed Peru to be successful and a leader in Latin America," he stated.

Panamericana Sur highway unblocked

On the other hand, Otarola welcomed the work carried out by the National Police and the Armed Forces to unblock the Panamericana Sur highway near the Barrio Chino sector.

"I want to announce that the Panamericana Sur highway, near the Barrio Chino sector, has been unblocked. It has been the result of a joint, professional, and responsible work undertaken by our National Police and the Armed Forces," he reported.
