Prime Minister Eduardo Arana on Thursday assured Congress members that the pillars of his administration will be strengthening the fight against organized crime, promoting investment and employment to ensure Peru's growth, and guaranteeing free, transparent, and unquestionable elections in 2026.

During his presentation outlining the Government's general policy, Arana called on all political, social, and economic sectors of the country to join in the objective of strengthening the fight against crime.

Security, first challenge

The Prime Minister stated that Peruvian institutions and families are being openly challenged by criminal organizations attempting to become a parallel power, putting the authority of the State to the test.

In response, he said that the first challenge of his administration is to ensure order in the streets and across the South American country.

"The Cabinet I lead declares, with determination and without ambiguity, a frontal fight against delinquency and crime," he stated.

The second challenge, Arana specified, will be to foster economic growth. Thus, he will decisively promote economic reactivation, through actions that mobilize productive capacity, promote private investment, and accelerate decentralized public investment.

He recalled that, thanks to the efforts of all citizens, recession was overcome in 2024 and growth of 3.3% was achieved, above that of other countries in the region.

Inflation stood at 2%, international reserves were equivalent to 28% of GDP, and Peru has one of the lowest country risk levels in Latin America.

"We know that economic growth without democracy is not possible. Therefore, in this decisive and electoral period in which Peruvians will go to the polls to elect their new authorities, our next challenge is to guarantee democratic stability, which has allowed us to redirect the country's course and move forward with clear rules," Arana stated.

He also reaffirmed the fundamental axes of the Government's general policy, approved at the beginning of President Dina Boluarte's term, which the administration will continue to pursue because "they represent the pillars of the administration and the path toward a future of greater social justice, equality, and dignity."

On this occasion, Prime Minister Arana presented to legislators the Government's general policy. He also requested a vote of confidence from lawmakers.
