The National Health Institute (INS) of Peru's Health Ministry urged the population not to lower the guard regarding COVID-19 prevention a few days before year-end celebrations.

According to the expert, behaving as if the epidemic disease had gone away and we were returning to a pre-pandemic normalcy is dangerous for everyone.

"Nowadays, we see many people wearing their face masks below their nose and mouth, crowds in the streets and markets, as well as people gathering at homes and closed bars without taking adequate preventive measures," she said.

In this sense, Solari warned that the logical consequence of this behavior is becoming visible and will be more visible in the following weeks, a period in which cases are likely to rise if people do not change their behavior.

The INS specialist noted that COVID-19 infection prevention recommendations remain unchanged across the country, including physical distancing (preferably of 2 meters), correct and permanent use of face masks when outside, as well as face shields and protective glasses in public transportation and
places where there is overcrowding.

Additionally, avoiding physical contact when greeting, as well as washing or sanitizing hands after touching shared surfaces and when returning home, remain valid and mandatory.

She said that following these recommendations is the best way to protect ourselves and others, and that staying healthy is the best Christmas gift we can have.
