The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Wednesday stated that Peru's agenda priority during the APEC forum is sustainable growth, which represents both a commitment and a great responsibility for all the member economies of the Asia-Pacific region.

"One of our priorities on the APEC Peru 2024 agenda is sustainable growth and achieving resilient development. Therefore, we have taken significant steps to integrate sustainability into our growth strategy, which includes transitioning to clean energy and enhancing food security," she stated at the Second NCAPEC Sustainable Future Forum.

The Head of State emphasized that we are at a crucial moment where it is essential to empower citizens and include them, so they can become active participants in the benefits of growth.

"We must ensure that everyone has access to quality education, technical skills training, and financial resources that enable them to develop their projects and potential," she expressed.

The top official emphasized the importance of designing policies and programs that ensure no one is left behind in this process, which includes access to markets, financing, and participation in decision-making.

She noted that the aspiration for sustainable growth, which improves citizens' lives, must also ensure that the benefits of economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region reach each of them in a tangible manner.

"Sustainable growth is not just an aspiration; it is a commitment and a responsibility," she stated.

Promoted initiatives

President Boluarte noted that significant steps have been taken to integrate sustainability into Peru's growth strategies, such as the transition to clean energy and the enhancement of food security.

In this regard, the top official highlighted that Peru has led the establishment of guidelines for the development and implementation of clean hydrogen and low-carbon roadmaps, which were approved by APEC economies last August.

Mrs. Boluarte added that these agreements underscore the role of hydrogen in decarbonizing the economy, presenting an opportunity to diversify energy sources, with a focus on generating clean and low-carbon hydrogen.

"Similarly, we are fostering the Trujillo Principles to prevent and reduce food loss and waste. This significant instrument for food security in the region was recently approved and represents a strong commitment from APEC economies to move toward more sustainable agri-food systems," she expressed.

The President highlighted that during APEC Peru 2024 Leaders' Week, its members will reaffirm their commitment to promoting policies that empower citizens, include them in the benefits of growth, and enable them to thrive in a sustainable regional economy, with the aim of raising the living standards of their populations.

"By working collaboratively, we not only contribute to Peru's development, but we also strengthen the shared vision of a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainability-driven Asia-Pacific," she concluded.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
