The gastronomic boom registered in Peru is one of the main factors that explains the creation and development of 270 franchises, and for this year an increase of 5% is expected, Front Consulting Peru Chairman Luis Kiser affirmed on Wednesday.

"In Peru, there are 550 franchises, of which 280 are foreign (51%) and 270 are domestic (49%), a large part of them belong to the gastronomic sphere," he expressed.

The high-ranking officer commented that franchises in Peru have always been expanding hand-in-hand with entrepreneurship, and the gastronomic segment continued to account for 65% of Peruvian franchises in 2019.

However, he said that in recent years other sectors reported greater participation. In this regard, he highlighted the category of specialized service franchises, which ranks second (19%).

Foreign investors

Kiser indicated that Peru's gastronomy draws the interest of foreign investors, due to its solid positioning and good reputation. "Therefore, there are several national brands in the field that are already operating in international markets, they are also expanding throughout the national territory."

The former chairman of the Peruvian Chamber of Franchises stressed that all commercial activity generated around Peruvian cuisine is of great economic and social importance for the country.

"Gastronomy generates employment, demand for food products, favors the export of franchises, and attracts more tourists, in addition to boosting domestic consumption at stores and supermarkets. Its potential is huge (…)," Kiser stated.

New proposals

Gyms, clothing stores, barbershops, veterinary clinics, and educational franchises, among others, have joined this new franchise list. In this sense, he explained that the aesthetics, beauty, and health segment holds the third position with a 7% participation.

He added that such franchises generated nearly 40,000 jobs in the country.
