By the first time, Peru will present a series of handicraft routes during the week of festivities on occasion of the World Tourism Day celebrated on September 27, and which slogan this year is “Tourism faces climate change’s challenge”, minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Mercede Aráoz, said today.

“Peru is the great host of the World Tourism Day celebrations and it is the first time that we present our handicraft routes, which will be on charge of its own actors. The artisans of the different Peruvian regions will exhibit their works before national and, in special, foreign visitors", she stated.

Aráoz said that routes to be showed will be the most representative of the country, such as Cusco, Puno, and other northern regions as Chulucanas (Piura), that also counts on origin’s denomination.

“The regional governments have also taken the responsibility, so they will present their alternatives and, possibly, we will make a tourist guide of handicraft routes finally”, she added.

She indicated that as part of this celebration, a Think Tank forum will be hosted to discuss on solution proposals for climate change challenge.

Representatives of public and private sectors, as well as World Tourism Organization (WTO) authorities and state ministers of other countries will participate in this forum.

Think Tank will be focused on climate solutions, looking to meet representative speakers and inform them on the most recent approaches in the world regarding tourism and climate change, as well as its local applications.

This event will present measures that can be implemented in the short and long terms, and in this way establish a list of the ten most practical solutions to be launched immediately.

Peru’s election as the host of this event is a great opportunity to organize diverse commemorative activities, attracting world’s attention.
