Peru seeks to make viable seven mining projects worth US$4.6 billion

The Government of President Dina Boluarte is committed to strengthening mining activity; therefore, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) is seeking to make more than US$4.6 billion viable in investments through seven projects that will contribute to boosting the economic recovery in the country.

The presentation of the Government General Policy before Congress, in compliance with article 130 of the Political Constitution, stressed that mining investment has a multiplying role, given that it is one of the engines of economic growth, employment generation, richness, as well as source of inclusion and the closing of social gaps.

Among the main mining projects are Tantahuatay Reposition (gold), Huancapeti Expansion (zinc), Antamina Reposition (copper), Romina (zinc), Raura Replenishment (silver), Chalcobamba Phase I (copper), and Corani (zinc).

Likewise, mining investment execution is expected to exceed US$5.4 billion in 2026, which shows continuous commitment to the growth of Peru's responsible mining industry. 

Within the framework of the boost given to mining, it was reported that the Executive Branch is preparing a new regulatory framework adapted to the reality of activities in the small-scale and artisanal mining nationwide so that it can achieve a responsible and sustainable development in relation with the State, society, and environment. 

In terms of electricity generation, the Government is committed to reducing electricity service gaps in the rural area, for which a portfolio of 111 rural electrification projects is being managed across the country to increase electricity coverage and bring this service to 96% of the national territory by the end of the Government's term.

In the medium-term, 25 rural electrification projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2024, which will benefit more than 145,000 inhabitants in the regions of Amazonas, Ancash, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huanuco, Junin, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Loreto, Puno, San Martin, Tacna, and Ucayali.
