attended the national flag-raising ceremony held at San Marcos National University (UNMSM) in Lima on Monday.
"National identity from the Dean of the Americas! President Jose Maria Balcazar took part in the solemn national flag-raising ceremony at the esplanade of San Marcos National University," the Presidential Office said on X.
Also present at the ceremony were Law and Political Science Faculty Dean Jose Palomino and UNMSM Rector Jeri Ramon.
The Presidency highlighted that the national flag-raising, with the participation of senior authorities, "reaffirmed the commitment of the academic community and the Government to strengthening patriotic values and national identity."
Additionally, during his visit to the campus, the Head of State received the "Rector Jose Leon Barandiaran" distinction, awarded by the university's Faculty of Law.
The top official expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
The president recalled the actions undertaken during his administration as Head of State—and earlier as a congressman—in support of education in Peru.
In that regard, he said efforts will be made to include a salary increase for university professors in the supplementary credit bill to be debated by Congress at the Executive Branch’s proposal.
The Head of State also stressed that the university is the center of science and technology, while underscoring the importance of offering degree programs aligned with current labor market demands.
The top official said thought must be given to the future that will be left to youth.
Lastly, he emphasized the need to work toward a safer and more inclusive country, with greater understanding and lower poverty rates.
