The
on Friday reiterated the decentralist approach of his administration, indicating that it means working hand-in-hand with regional governments, as well as more than 1,800 province and district mayors.
During his closing speech at the
2021 Bicentennial Municipal Summit —which brought together 200 mayors from the country— the Head of State invited authorities to the Government Palace so as to provide solutions to the problems of the neediest areas.
"I want to transfer you the firm commitment of this Government because you represent deep Peru. Within that framework, I highlight the decentralist approach that characterizes this Government; it means working hand-in-hand with more than 1,800 province and district mayors, as well as regional governments, guiding policies ahead of other interests," he expressed.
In this sense, top official said it is necessary to reverse the existing centralism, indicating that this "is the Government of the provinces," since it is important to decentralize the economy, "not just make an administrative and political change."
"Today, we come to grant you the right that assists you (...) because I have the moral authority to say that this budget is for the peoples," he emphasized.
Likewise, Mr. Castillo called on attendees to work together, prioritizing the nation's most urgent needs.
"We took office at a difficult time; we are aware of the major problems, many of which were inherited. However, we will face them; we will not run away. That is why I come to reiterate my political willingness to work with you," he underlined.
Institutionality
The top official said that those are the same groups which —in recent years— have dedicated themselves to undermining institutionality and attempt to destabilize the nation.
Within this framework, the President affirmed that the Peruvian people have democratically elected a Government and want authorities to focus their efforts on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, reactivating the economy, as well as improving health, education, and security.
"Peruvians also want us to leave the confrontations behind and work together for the sake of the country," he concluded.
