Peru President: Government's main objective must be people's well-being

11:04 | Lima, Dec. 10.

The central objective of all Government actions must be aimed at benefitting the people, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra affirmed on Tuesday.

The Head of State said that —since his first day in office— five axes were established, among which are economic growth that must be equitable, competitive, and sustainable

"The main objective of all Government actions must be the people. If we do not reach out to the people, if we do not improve the living conditions of our citizens, we will not have fulfilled our administration's objectives," he expressed.

In this sense, the top official deemed the presentation of the Human Development Report 2019 as positive and satisfactory because it realizes that Peru made important advances, adding that Peruvians' quality of life has continued to improve over the recent year "despite of the cases of corruption and polarization that we had to face."

"According to the results, Peru climbed seven positions in the Human Development Index ranking and holds the 82nd position out of 189 countries in the world," he explained.

Remarks were made during the presentation of the Human Development Report 2019 elaborated by the United Nations Development Programme, which highlights the Inca country's progress in health, education, and economic income.
