Peru: President Fujimori meets IDB chief to address financial and technical support

The President of the Republic of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, held a meeting with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Ilan Goldfajn as part of her official activities during the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session in New York City.

During the meeting, the Head of State and the IDB chief discussed the international institution's financial and technical support to the Peruvian Government.

Similarly, they talked about the development of cutting-edge research and innovative solutions to confront the challenges facing the South American country.

The projects being worked on by the IDB for Peru include those focused on transportation, sanitation, healthcare, justice, agriculture, natural disaster prevention, and other areas.

Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba attended the meeting as well.

He underscored its importance in reaffirming the commitment to continue working with the country on key issues such as security, education, infrastructure, and El Niño phenomenon prevention, as well as State modernization.

The Cabinet member noted that the policy is implemented through a Multisectoral Strategic Plan that coordinates the actions of the relevant entities to foster sustainable financial inclusion.

He added that the Government, supported by the IDB, is developing financial education initiatives nationwide, with the participation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and other sectors, to strengthen public confidence in the financial system.

Dialogue with Swiss Confederation President

As part of her official agenda in New York City, President Fujimori, accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa, also met with her counterpart from the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin.

During the meeting, they underscored the strong level of bilateral relations and the common agenda.

The event addressed economic and trade-related issues.

Both presidents highlighted the sustained increase in Swiss investment in Peru and agreed on the importance of promoting new opportunities for investors.

In this regard, they noted the first session of the Peru-Switzerland Joint Economic Commission, scheduled to take place in Lima this December.
