led the first National Intelligence Council meeting on Monday.
The event was convened to coordinate government action against crime and the main threats affecting the tranquility of Peruvian families.
"Intelligence will be the backbone of efforts to restore peace," Fujimori said during the meeting, where strategies were discussed to improve the Peruvian State's ability to anticipate and respond to criminal activity.
The gathering was attended by Cabinet Chief Luis Galarreta, as well as Ministers Carlos Espa (Foreign Affairs), Rafael Belaunde (Defense), Cesar Astudillo (Interior), Ernesto Alvarez (Justice), and National Intelligence Director Hugo Cornejo.
Also attending were the head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and senior commanders of the Peruvian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
At this event, an assessment was presented of the 10 identified threats, including organized crime, common crime, corruption, illegal mining, and drug trafficking.
The increase in violence linked to extortion was assessed, as was the presence of transnational criminal organizations in border areas, phenomena that require a coordinated and sustained response from State institutions.
Within this framework, the Council set as its main objective strengthening intelligence efforts to combat crime, anticipate its actions, and help restore order, peace, and tranquility for citizens.
After the session, Army Commander General Oswaldo Calle highlighted that this meeting marked a historic milestone in the fight against criminal activity and organized crime.
Moreover, he underscored President Fujimori's support for the Armed Forces and the National Police in combating threats to the country's security.
"We will spare no effort to carry out these actions because we have the support of our Madam President and the entire Executive Branch," he emphasized.
In turn, National Intelligence Director Hugo Cornejo described the session as a historic event for the National Intelligence Directorate (DINI), as it brought together for the first time senior Executive Branch officials and those responsible for Peru's intelligence system.
"For DINI, what happened today marks a historic milestone. It is the first time in the institution's history that a meeting of this magnitude has been held, with the participation of Executive Branch officials and those responsible for the various levels of the intelligence system," he underscored.
