During the commemoration of International Women's Day, President Dina Boluarte called for compliance with current national and international regulations aimed at eliminating discrimination and violence against female citizens.

In her speech, Mrs. Boluarte said she issues this request to the public and the private sectors, so that equal rights and opportunities between men and women are guaranteed.

The top official stated that her Government "has a commitment to the more than 17 million Peruvian women, especially those who are victims of harassment and violence, and who live in situations of vulnerability and poverty, as well as to girls and adolescents, who are even more vulnerable."

"For them and for all of us, the (Peruvian) State will continue to intensify its efforts to achieve equality, as well as to build a more just and inclusive society, one that sanctions violence and empowers women to achieve their goals and live fully," she expressed.

In that sense, the Head of State indicated that her administration "recognizes the invaluable contribution of women, as well as their tireless sacrifice, courage, and efforts to achieve a more just society."

Rights

When recalling the struggles of female citizens, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that thanks to them various rights were earned, among them the right to participate in the nation's political life.

"Throughout history we have been achieving feats; one of them is my presence here," she said, alluding to her status as the first female President of the Republic in the history of Peru.

In this regard, she explained that "if we had not fought for parity on the electoral lists, I would not be here."

The top official recalled that in the last general elections it was possible for the candidate lists "to be organized equally."

Remarks were made during the conference called "Advances and challenges in terms of women's rights."

This event took place at the Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
