The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte held a working meeting with mayors of the Eastern Lima Municipal Community to expedite attention to the damage caused by natural emergencies in this area of the capital city.

The Head of State indicated that local authorities rely on Executive Branch support to clean up the affected zone and attend to the victims.

Likewise, the top official specified that municipalities have resources to act at the first instance in case of emergency. Then it is the duty of regional governments and the Executive Branch.

Furthermore, the President urged local authorities to execute (public) works linked to prevention, desilting, and strengthening of river defenses given the alert of a new Coastal El Niño phenomenon in Peru.

"We have to engage in prevention in order to protect the lives and homes of citizens, so that these new emergencies do not catch us off guard. Today (Thursday), we have had an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers to take action in the face of this possible emergency," she stated.

Mrs. Boluarte also recommended that mayors raise awareness among the population so that its members do not build their homes in high-risk areas.

The event was attended by Mayors Oswaldo Vargas (Chosica), Richard Soria (El Agustino), Olimpio Alegria (Santa Anita), Esteban Uceda (La Molina), Jesus Maldonado (San Juan de Lurigancho), Sergio Baigorria (Chaclacayo), and Franco Vidal (Ate).

It was held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Thursday.
