The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has suggested a new staggered voting schedule for the presidential runoff election —slated for June 6— in order to avoid crowds and improve the experience of the elderly called to the polls.

The new staggered schedule sets voting times according to the last digit of voters' ID number.

On election day (June 6), Peruvians are expected to turn out at the polls from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

In this way, people whose last digit on their ID card is 1 can go to the polling station from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.; those whose last ID digit is 2 are advised to go from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The 9:00am–10:00am schedule is recommended for those whose last ID digit is 3; while the 10:00am–11:00am schedule for those whose digit is 4; and so on until digit 0 is reached, so that the last group of citizens can cast their ballots during the last hour of voting.

ONPE Chief Piero Corvetto called on Peruvians to participate in the presidential runoff election feeling confident about their vote choice.

In April 11 general elections, the most vulnerable people, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities were advised to go to the polls between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
