Peru: Mining investment up 45% to US$4.116bn in Jan-Jul 2026

Mining investment totaled US$4.116 billion between January and July this year, marking a 45% increase from the same period in 2025, when it amounted to US$2.839 billion, according to figures from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

At the regional level, mining investment was highest in Arequipa, Ica, Moquegua, and Ancash, which together accounted for 50.1%, meaning more than half of the national total.

Disaggregated by company, investments by Southern Peru stood out at US$566.4 million (+134.9%), followed by Shougang Hierro Peru at US$399.4 million (+129.1%), Antamina at US$347.6 million (+36.2%), Las Bambas at US$326.6 million (+42%), and Antapaccay at US$217.2 million (+338.1%).

Infrastructure investment grew 70.5% from January to July this year compared with the same period in 2025, driven by significant disbursements for the expansion and optimization of the country's main mining operations.

Regarding Mining Equipment investment, on a cumulative basis (January–July 2026), it totaled 3.8% more than in the same period of 2025.

The increase was driven by mining fleet renewal, specialized machinery modernization, and the incorporation of higher-capacity equipment with greater technological efficiency.

In the Exploration category, investment through July this year grew 2.8% compared with the same period in 2025.

Development and Preparation investment expanded 108.7% from January to July this year compared with the same period in 2025.

Meanwhile, Processing Plant investment increased by 21.3% from January to July 2026 compared with the same period of the previous year.

In the Other category, investment grew 66.7% from January to July this year compared with the same period in 2025.
