Peru: Mining exports total US$2.209 billion in Sept 2019

09:12 | Lima, Nov. 12.

Peruvian mining exports amounted to US$2.209 billion in September this year, a 1.2% rise compared to the same month in 2018, the privately-run National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) has affirmed.

Within this framework, copper shipments also grew in the ninth month of this year totaling US$1.112 billion, a 2.1% increase over the same month in 2018.

The main destination markets for copper exports were China, Japan, and South Korea.

Likewise, gold shipments increased in September thus reaching US$668 million (+7%).

The main markets for gold exports are India, Switzerland, and the United States.

January – September 2019

On the other hand, SNMPE said that —from January to September this year— mining exports totaled US$20.083 billion, a lower amount (-7%) if compared to the similar period in 2018.

In the analyzed period, copper exports amounted to US$9.970 billion (-10.1%).

The guild also stressed that copper shipments represented 29% of Peru's total exports, which reached US$34.398 billion in the first nine months of the current year.

"Copper exports accounted for 50% of mining exports, which reached US$20.083 billion between January and September," SNMPE expressed.

The energy-mining guild indicated that the decrease in mining exports value —between January and September— was due to the impact of the reduction in metal prices, as well as to lower export and production volumes.
