Peru: Copper exports up 4.9% in Apr 2019

Peruvian copper exports totaled US$1.312 billion in April 2019, thus increasing 4.9% compared to the same month last year (US$1.251 billion), the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) has reported.

The main destinations were China, Japan, and South Korea. 

According to the privately-run guild, copper shipments accounted for 29% (US$4.374 billion) of total exports in the first four-month period of this year, which reached US$14.903 billion. 

Likewise, it informed copper shipments accounted for 51% of mining exports —worth US$8.583 billion— between January and April 2019. 

However, copper shipments reached US$4.374 billion in the first four months of 2019, thus decreasing 11.4% compared to the same period in 2018.

Gold 

On the other hand, gold exports amounted to US$571 million in April this year. The target markets were India, Switzerland, and the U.S.

Total exports 

Mining shipments reached US$8.583 billion in the first four months of 2019, a 12% decrease compared to the same period last year.

"However, mining exports accounted for 58% of Peru's total sales abroad between last January and April (US$14.903 billion)," SNMPE expressed.
