Peru's gold exports up 6% in August 2019

Peruvian gold exports totaled US$701 million in August this year, a 6% growth compared to the same month in 2018, the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) reported on Tuesday.

In August 2018, said shipments amounted to US$662 million.

The main destinations for Peruvian gold exports are India, Switzerland, and the United States. 

Between January and August this year, gold sales reached US$5.221 billion, down 5.7% over to the same period in 2018 (US$5.536 billion).

Copper

On the other hand, copper sales totaled US$8.845 billion between January and August 2019, a 11.6% decline from the same period a year earlier (US$10 billion)

According to the mining and energy union, copper exports (US$8.845 billion) accounted for 29% of total Peruvian exports, which reached US$30.478 billion during the first eight months of the year.

Besides, these shipments made up 50% of mining exports, which totaled US$17.846 billion.
