The Second Criminal Appeals Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice in Lima declared unfounded the Prosecutor's Office appeal
seeking the preliminary detention of Piero Corvetto, former chief of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE).
The restrictive measure was requested within the framework of the investigation into alleged irregularities in the organization of the April 12 General Elections.
The chamber's ruling also dismisses the Prosecutor's Office request to lift the secrecy of communications, in the form of geolocation tracking, against the former official.
The terms of the ruling apply to co-investigated individuals Jose Samame Blas, Juan Phang Sanchez, and Juan Alvarado Pfuyo as well.
The Arbizu y Gamarra law firm, which handles Corvetto Salinas' defense, said the Criminal Appeals Chamber rejected the preliminary detention request after determining that there is no evidence proving a flight risk or obstruction by the former ONPE chief.
Furthermore, "it recognized his willingness to submit to the proceedings and cooperate with the investigative actions."
Piero Corvetto is under investigation for the alleged crimes of aggravated collusion, omission of official acts, and false declaration in administrative proceedings.
The events under investigation are related to delays in the delivery of electoral materials within the framework of the 2026 General Elections and the hiring of the company Gálaga for their distribution.
