With deep pride and gratitude, Interior Minister Jose Zapata welcomed more than 40 Peruvian firefighters and rescue dog Kaira, members of the USAR Group of the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru (CGBVP).

From Jorge Chavez International Airport, the Interior Minister highlighted that the delegation carried out a humanitarian mission in Venezuelan territory.

There, it conveyed the solidarity of the Peruvian people and upheld the country's reputation through its professionalism, courage, and commitment to saving lives.

The government official stressed the successful rescue of a 60-year-old woman who had remained trapped under the rubble for nearly three days—an operation that demonstrated the national team’s high level of preparedness and operational capacity.

"When it comes to saving lives, there are no borders," he stated.

Minister Zapata presented Kaira with special recognition for her outstanding participation in search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas.

Likewise, he thanked each member of the mission for their dedication, saying they had honorably represented the country in one of the most complex emergencies recorded in the region in recent times.

Dedication and vocation

The minister recalled that just days earlier he himself had seen off the brigade before its departure to assist the Venezuelan people.

In that regard, the Cabinet member noted that the deployment of firefighters to Venezuela was made possible thanks to coordinated efforts involving the Peruvian Government, airline LATAM, and NGO Peru Pendiente.

"On behalf of the Government of Peru, the Interior Ministry, and the Peruvian people, thank you for your dedication, your vocation of service, and for making all Peruvians feel proud of each and every one of you," Zapata said.

"Welcome home, and thank you very much, heroes in the service of humanity!" he emphasized.

The volunteer firefighters belong to the USAR Peru Group, a highly specialized unit dedicated to locating, extracting, and stabilizing people trapped in confined spaces, collapsed structures, and rubble caused by natural or technological disasters.

Present at this event were CGBVP Commander General Juan Carlos Morales, Peru Pendiente Chairwoman Vanessa Vasquez, as well as representatives of LATAM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Superintendence of Migration.
