The Executive Branch —respecting the neutrality principle— affirmed that it is not legally possible to fulfill Fuerza Popular presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori's request to seek an international audit of the electoral process.

In this sense, Justice Minister Eduardo Vega reported that the President of the Republic or any Executive Branch member cannot interfere in the electoral process, thus respecting the neutrality principle and the autonomy of electoral organizations.

Based on the Constitution, the alleged irregularities claimed by Fujimori must be examined by the National Election Board (JNE), which has been assessing the requests for annulment of voting records.

"According to the constitutional text, the Executive Branch must comply and enforce the resolutions of the National Election Board," the high-ranking official expressed.

In her view, an inspection of this nature could determine whether the results processed and counted by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) reflect the popular will.
