Organization of American States' (OAS) Electoral Observation Mission Chief Ruben Ramirez on Friday thanked the President of the Republic, Francisco Sagasti, for his openness to the multilateral institution and the neutrality proven during the Peruvian electoral process.

"I thank President Francisco Sagasti for the openness he has shown towards the Electoral Observation Mission that I have the honor to lead," Ramirez wrote on Twitter.

"I congratulate the neutrality with which he has conducted this complex process and his action in favor of Peruvian democracy," he added.

Within this framework, the Head of State reaffirmed the Government's support for the mission members, who will contribute to the strengthening of democracy and transparency in the presidential runoff election on June 6.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief of the OAS Electoral Observation Mission Gerardo Sanchez; the Director of the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation at OAS Gerardo de Icaza; and OAS representative in Peru Miguel Trinidad.

As is known, the preliminary report of the OAS Electoral Observation Mission highlighted the work carried out by Peruvian electoral authorities during the first round of elections, which took place on April 11 in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
